Lightning Talks

Joe Apuzzo: 2-meter FM radio kit - Joe showed the group a small board that was availble for Not Much Money from one of the local Amateur Radio groups - OMARC. The board is programmable and is a surplus board picked up by the club. It has several uses that would appeal to the local Ham operator. Contact Joe if interested!

No Lightning talks tonight - Straight to the Main Talk.

Jack Chastain: OpenZFS (In which I get to talk about myself in the Third Person!)

Jack presented OpenZFS - an Open Source version of the Oracle ZFS file system/LVM. OpenZFS allows the Administrator to extract many storage considerations from what is usually done. Disks are no longer partitioned, formatting isn't required and a specific structure for things is no longer needed. The primary consideration now may be what level of data security is desired, then simply creating "pools" that support that need.

No lightning Talks this evening - straight into the Main Event.

Matthias Johnson - OpenDMX Lightning

DMX (or maybe more accurately, DMX512) is Digital Multiplexing - DMX512 being a developing standard for controlling lights, particularly Stage Lighting. Open DMX Lightning is an attempt to facilitate standards to make this happen.

Mad Science!

Once a year, the group breaks the normal course of events and presents hardware projects they have been working on. Anyone with a "special project" may bring it and present it to all those that attend. It's fun and different and this year was no exception.
