Hack-a-thon
A couple of times a year MHVLUG hosts local Hack-a-thon events at SUNY New Paltz, an informal gathering of MHVLUG members during the weekend to work on projects. While you can do this in the quiet of your own home, it's often much more fun to work on these things in a social atmostphere.
Projects come in many forms, but are typically software or hardware related. Recent hack-a-thons have included people working on weather stations, wiki setup, android hacking, drupal and ruby on rails web development.
The events tend to be all day affairs, staring at 10am and going until 5 or 6, with a gathering for dinner afterwards.
The next MHVLUG Hack-a-thon will probably be in the Spring of 2010, look for it in our upcoming events.
