Using knoppix as a base, we have created our own Linux distro! Knoppix is a Live CD, this means that it's a whole Linux Distribution that runs from the CD. MHV-Live is Knoppix, refined by MHVLUG members into a Linux distro that furthers our LUG mission.

• It allows people to try out Linux on their own computer WITHOUT installing Linux.
• When a person wants to install Linux, it gives him or her the tools to figure out what hardware is seen by Linux.
• It also is a "Rescue CD" or "Recovery Tool" - all the tools one needs to recover a Linux or Windows system. (Why recover a Windows system? to show the user that Linux can rescue them! That's why)
• A secure platform for web, email and finance. By booting from CD and using a "USB thumb drive" you can operate a computer in the most secure way.

What's on our CD that is not on Knoppix?

• Replaced KDE with Xfce 4.2 which is a very light, fast, and useable desktop manager

• Added Xfld, which gives Xfce the look and feel of KDE and/or Gnome

• The latest version of the FireFox browser.

• System rescue tools

• Latest US version of Open Office

• GNU Cash ( does what Quicken does, not a copy, better! )

• Internet Radio, TV, and Phone

• IceWM desktop manager with xfe file manager for when you don'’t want “eye candy” but want access to all the programs and utilities.

How do I get a CD?

We hand them out at meetings, install fests and computer shows where we have a table. But you should request one.
